Quick Mate Overview
Quick Mate can be used to position parts relative to one another. This feature, along with the Transform widget, allows users to bring data in from different CAD systems, merge them together, and align the data to perform a visual fit, form, and function type design reviews.
To start using Quick Mate, you must first select the data you want to move, then right-click and select Quick Mate from the context menu. The Quick Mate wizard will appear in the lower right corner to walk you through the mating process. The first point selected serves as the translational point and the second point selected serves as the stationary point.
- Select the data you would like to move and then right click to select Quick Mate from the context menu. This will display the draggable Quick Mate popover.
- Select a point on the data to be moved. This will drop a small plane indicating the location that will be used to align your mate. Click Next (or press Enter) to move to Step 2. Warning: If your selected point for Step 1 is not on the part to be moved, you will get a warning to choose a point on the selected part. This provides you with the most predictable results when mating.
- Select a point on the surface of the part to which you would like to mate, then click Next (or press Enter) to continue or click Back to start over. Warning: If the second point you pick is on the selected part from Step 1, you will get a warning message to select a point on the fixed part to which you would like to mate to.
- The selected data will be aligned to mate using the points selected point from Step 1 and Step 2. Before finalizing the mate, you have the option to make adjustments to the selected part’s position using the Transform widget that appears on Step 3. Adjust your parts alignment, and when ready pick the Done button to complete the mating process. Note: You can use the Flip Alignment option to flip the direction your part is mated (changing the orientation of the selected part) if the expected orientation was not used by default. Once you are satisfied with the position of your mated parts, you can click Done to apply your changes. Tip: Once you are happy with your alignment, you can take a snapshot to save the mating position.
