You can import incremental versions of your model files and also access previous versions of those files. Importing an incremental version updates the file to use the latest part geometry in the viewing area and your snapshots. If you used the model in a story, you can update all story snapshots to show the latest part geometry.
Model files
When you import an existing model and you choose to increment the version number, you can expect the following:
- All snapshots that currently exist in the model update to reflect the latest geometry.
- If there is updated geometry that replaces or removes parts in previous versions, those parts are replaced or removed in the updated snapshots.
- If the updated geometry includes a new part, that part is only visible if the parent assembly is 100% visible in the snapshot.
Example: Version 1 of the model includes a snapshot with a hidden part
in the Connections 1 sub-assembly. When version 2 is imported, it adds a new part 
to the Connections 1 sub-assembly. The new part imports as hidden because the Connections 1 sub-assembly was not 100% visible when the snapshot was created.
- All snapshots retain the existing markup, pins, cross sections, measurements, and comments.
- All snapshots become read-only when you open a previous version of the current model.
- You cannot create new snapshots in past versions for your model.
- You can add a cross section and use measurement in all versions of your model, but you can only save them to a snapshot in the current version.
- If you shared your model with others, they can open all versions of the file. If you import a new version, they receive the latest geometry, and their private snapshots update accordingly.
Story files
If you are the creator of a story, and a new version of the model used to create the story is imported, you can open the story and update all snapshots at once to show the latest geometry.
Example:
The following image shows snapshots in a story in which a new version of the model has been imported. Notice that there’s a red dot after Get Latest Snapshots. This indicates that there’s a new model version, and your snapshots might be missing new or revised geometry.
The following image shows that the snapshots have been updated to show the latest version of the model. The red dot is gone, and you can see new, additional parts in the first two snapshots.
