If you want to import a SolidWorks assembly, save all of the assembly’s files to a new folder.
- Create a folder where you want to save all of the components of your assembly.
- Open SolidWorks, and open your assembly.
- Choose File → Pack and Go.
- In the Pack and Go dialog, do the following:
- Under Select files to be saved to the specified Pack and Go folder, select Include Toolbox components. Select or clear anything else you want to include or exclude from the assembly.
- Ensure that Nested view is selected.
- In the list of all related files, ensure that everything you want to include in the assembly is selected.
- Select Save to Zip file, and browse to the folder you created in step 1. Include a file name for the assembly. The name must match the name of the top-level assembly.
Example: If the top-level assembly file is named TopLevelAssembly.sldasm, name the .zip file TopLevelAssembly.zip.
- You can now import the assembly or the zip file into Vertex.
Notes:
- Parts should be unhidden or unsuppressed. If they’re not, they’ll appear as gray (unavailable) in the BOM.
-
Best practice is to always zip your files before importing it. This reduces the amount of time it takes to import larger assemblies.
