Get started quickly with information on how to sign in for the first time, the supported browsers, and a few terms that will help you understand Vertex a bit better.
Welcome email
Once you receive the Vertex welcome email with your temporary password, you're ready to get started. Do one of the following:
- Choose a new password after your initial sign-in.
- If enabled by your administrator, sign in using single sign-on (SSO).
Devices and supported browsers
As a cloud-based environment, you can use any device to view 3D models in a browser. We support the two most recent versions of:
- Chrome
- Edge
- Firefox (desktop only)
- Safari
Other browsers may work, but we do not currently support them.
Vertex license types
- Connect User — Full access to all Vertex features, including 3D model import, 3D story creation, and 3D interactivity.
- Administrator — All functionality of a Connect User, and can also create and manage user accounts, Team Workspaces, and specify an organization's settings.
Tip: Assign new users a Story User license if you know they should have limited access to a model's geometry. Connect Users and Administrators control the geometry a Story User sees, which protects intellectual property and addresses other security concerns.
- Story User — Access to collaboration functionality in Vertex Stories only.
Vertex terminology
For the most part, Vertex uses generic or self-explanatory language, but here are some terms that might need more clarification.
- snapshot — An interactive 3D thumbnail that makes it quick and easy to jump to various saved states of your model. Snapshots include the camera position, part visibility, markup, cross sections, and more. Snapshots are then used to create a story (Connect Users or Administrators).
Note: Only those who can import models can create a story from snapshots.
- story — A collection of snapshots that can be shared with colleagues to review complex 3D data easily. It can be thought of as a collaborative, 3D slideshow in which everyone can review the content and provide interactive feedback in the form of comments, attachments, screenshots, and more.
- story collaborator — A person who has access to a story. Collaborators review stories and interact with the 3D data in each snapshot. They can analyze the model and provide feedback.
- story creator — The person who creates a story. They're responsible for sharing a story and specifying the story's settings, such as units of measurement and whether or not geometry can be exported.
